Our Journey

key moments

METS commences operations in Seven Hills as an incorporated Disability organisation in July 1991.

METS operates as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) auspiced by Jobs Australia, specialising in delivering training within the children’s services sector. METS moves to Glendenning and gains the reputation as a well-respected provider offering skilled training.

METS becomes an independent RTO in October 2004, registered as Macquarie Employment Training Services Inc (RTO code 91018).

Macquarie Employment Training Service Inc. was purchased by Disability Services Australia in December 2014.

METS was approved as a Smart and Skilled Provider in March 2016.

In September 2020, METS changes from legal entity to a Company Limited by Guarantee with the business name of Macquarie Employment Training Service Limited, trading as METS and moved to Mascot.

Through digital transformation initiatives we moved key online resources, courses and assessments to an online learning hub titled  ‘Online@METS’.

Students can now enrol online via VETenrol with a simplified administration/payment process.

Digital transformation initiative resulted in an online Learning Management System ‘Online@METS’ that transformed paper based courses into online resources and assessments.

Students can now enrol online via VETenrol with a simplified administration/payment process.

Today we offer nearly 30 programs  across numerous industries.

We introduced LearnAbility, a specialised program for people with disability to learn specific skills on the job and at the same time gain a nationally recognised unit of competency.

The VET sector Training Services (NSW Department of Education) has invited us to apply for a High Performing Provider contract which will position METS in the top 10% RTOs in NSW.

We are offering government-funded programs such as the Skilling for Recovery, Skill Up from Home and More Jobs More Care initiatives.

Our future is bright and exciting. We are committed to continuing our legacy as a highly respected provider of Childcare qualifications whilst continuing to grow online learning opportunities, in addition to our current expansion into the huge growth sectors of Disability and Community Services.

This is an initiative very close to the hearts of GM, Audra Tuckwood and RTO Manager, Jeanette Sticker who set out to honor the original vision of George Elliot for METS; to support people with mild to moderated disabilities to find and secure jobs in “open employment”.

This unique learning model developed by METS, engineers opportunities for people with learning difficulties and disabilities by providing participants, employment service providers and employers with the support they need to take the steps in creating sustainable, open employment opportunities, championing the value and contribution of people with disability within the workplace.
