School Based Apprenticeships & Training

School Based Apprenticeships & Training

SBATs

SBATs allow senior high school students to work with an employer as paid employees while studying for their Higher School Certificate.

This subsidised training helps students gain valuable skills and experience, to be work-ready by the time they finish school.

SBATs opens doors to a dynamic career path for students, giving them a head start in the career they desire. Taking the trade approach to their career, students can distinguish themselves from the crowd.

The traineeships offered at METS are similar to apprenticeships, but they concentrate on vocational or job areas, such as office administration, early childhood education and care, or warehousing.

  • Receive both an education and a job
  • Get in-demand industry knowledge and skills
  • Earn while you learn
  • Work towards achieving a nationally-recognised qualification
  • Acquire hands-on experience in a real job
  • Gain the skills and experience needed for tertiary study
  • Experience a great way to move from school to work

Learners can also gain an additional 4 units of HSC, ask your careers advisor about this HSC course option or contact us today to learn more.

Information for Employers

As a mentor, business play a pivotal role by investing in young people and the community. In turn, employers are supported by the school and its SBAT liaison as well as the Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC). Commencing the traineeship with young members of society helps organisations ensure that they are resourced with trained and qualified people.

Benefits include but are not limited to:

  • Financial incentives from the Government
  • Ongoing mentoring and support from METS
  • Contemporary training for apprentices/trainees
  • More engaged, skilled young staff

SBAT employers can assist in motivating young people to work towards their future goals and provide them real exposure to the industry or sector. We invite you to become part of the partnership where education and industry work together to provide a competent, confident and skilled workforce.
