HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

About this course

This nationally-recognised Unit of Competency is for anyone who may need to provide a CPR Response in a community or workplace setting. Learning CPR could lead to saving a life. METS trainers have a wealth of experience and knowledge in delivering CPR and first aid training which is in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

What Makes Us Different?

  • At METS we offer training that is customised to suit the learner’s needs.
  • We teach the latest techniques and revise our course content regularly to meet Australian Standards.
  • Training is conducted in groups of 10-15 to ensure students receive individual support (groups of up to 20 can be catered to).
  • Training can be delivered at your workplace, a local venue, school or childcare centre… where & when it suits you!
  • Public courses are delivered at our modern, fully equipped training facilities in Mascot and Kingsgrove.
  • On completing the course, electronic copy of results will be available. If a printed copy is required, $10 will be charged for printing and postage.

Following the guidelines set by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC), METS recommends first aiders also update their CPR skills every 12 months.

Upon successful completion of enrolment, training and assessment, learners who are competent receive a Statement of Attainment for: HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (valid for 12 months). Learners can do a refresher course with METS and recertify their skills at any time.

Participants must be 14 years of age or over (those under 18 must present an enrolment form from a parent or guardian). This course requires every participant to complete a variety of First Aid scenarios including practical assessments. If your health/fitness restricts you from completing all required scenarios, you still will be able to participate but may not be eligible to receive the nationally-recognised certificate.

FAQs

To be eligible to commence a traineeship, a participant must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident working full or part time within a service (minimum 15 hours). The participant must have the support of their employer, an accredited RTO (such as METS Training Services) and an Australian Apprenticeship Centre.

Finding a traineeship is similar to finding any job. You’ll need to network with employers and job recruitment agencies and market yourself within your chosen sector.
If a participant is ineligible for a traineeship due to their employment status (casual, part-time working under 15 hours etc.), they can still complete the course as a Fee for Service Student. If a participant is ineligible for a traineeship due to their residency status, they can in some cases still complete the qualification Self-Funded, however visa restrictions do apply. It is best to speak to your immigration officer and/or us regarding your eligibility.
Depending on the unit of study, you will complete both theory and practical based assessments to achieve competency in your qualification. Assessments may include short answer, project work, case students and reflection logs.

Yes. Under certain circumstances your traineeship can be extended, however this process can take some time and applying for an extension should be considered as a last resort. You should speak to us and/or your Australian Apprenticeship Centre if you are considering applying for an extension.
