About This Course

METS trainers will inspire you to create a safe and inclusive environment in early childhood education and care services. This nationally- recognised course includes 12 core units and 3 electives.

This qualification will give you knowledge for supporting and leading children’s learning and development, health and wellbeing, along with designing, planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs and practices, that meet the requirements of the National Quality Framework (NQF), which includes the National Law and Regulations, National Quality Standard, the assessment and rating process and national learning frameworks. It will also prepare you for working with community members and external agencies.

The Education and Care Services National Regulations state under Section 126: Centre-based services – The qualification requirements for educators at centre-based services for children preschool age or under are – at least 50 per cent of the educators who are required to meet the relevant educator to child ratios for the service must have, or be actively working towards, at least an approved diploma level education and care qualification. Section 128: Family Day Care Co-ordinator qualifications state: A family day care co-ordinator must have an approved diploma level education and care qualification.

While enjoying the combination of online study as well as practical workplace experience, this course will prepare you for your role and responsibilities as a diploma level educator.

To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

Accelerated Pathway to Bachelor of Early Childhood Education with Ikon Institute of Australia

METS has partnered with Ikon Institute of Australia to offer an Accelerated Pathway for learner completing the CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. This pathway allows you to progress seamlessly into the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education at Ikon, building on your diploma studies and practical experience.

Through this program, you can:

  • Transition from diploma to bachelor-level study

  • Complete your bachelor through the Accelerated Pathway with credit from your diploma units

Entry requirements

Learners may now enter the CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care if you hold:

  • CHC30121 Certificate III in ECEC, OR CHC30113 Certificate III in ECEC OR
  • Any Australian Cert III in Children’s Services obtained prior to 2013,

PLUS either:

  • 12 months full-time employment in a regulated ECEC service (within the last 5 years), OR
  • Completion of CHCSS00147 Entry to Diploma Skill Set

Work Placement

Work placement requirements - 280 hours

It is required that you have a qualified person holding a relevant higher level qualification to act
as your practical supervisor during the course.

Units within this qualification require students to complete work placement hours in a regulated early childhood education and care service within Australia. These hours may be completed as part of the student's paid employment or as an unpaid practicum. Your METS Trainer will visit the workplace to assess students on the job and/or via video conferencing throughout the qualification.

Your Trainer and METS staff are available if you need any assistance with discussing the arrangements with your chosen organisation or employer.
