Language, Literacy, & Numeracy Requirements
To take this course, you’ll need a foundational grasp of English and basic numeracy. This means you should be able to:
- Interpret essential workplace materials like safety signage and instructional manuals.
- Communicate through clear, concise written responses.
- Handle numbers for practical tasks, such as counting rhythms for CPR or checking medication expiry dates.
- Process verbal directions and accurately document spoken information.
Digital Literacy Requirements
Training assessments are conducted digitally through our online Learner Portal, which you will access after enrolling. To succeed in this course, you should be comfortable using a computer, tablet, or smartphone, as well as managing email and basic apps.
During your practical training, you will also learn to operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Note for Virtual Learners: If you are attending via a virtual classroom, you must have the technical ability to join and participate using Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
Physical Requirements
First aid training is competency-based, meaning you’ll demonstrate your skills through practical observations, Q&A sessions, and simulated role-plays. You should expect to work closely with partners during these interactive exercises.
Please be aware that first aid involves physically demanding tasks. Most notably, you must perform two minutes of continuous, single-rescuer CPR on a manikin positioned on the floor. Per national training standards, the floor-level requirement is mandatory and cannot be modified or waived for the assessment.
Participation Requirements
To successfully complete this course, you must participate in all theory and practical exercises in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct found in our Student Handbook.
Assessment is based on both what you know and how you perform. While our trainers are here to support your learning journey, a “competent” result can only be granted once you have successfully demonstrated every performance and knowledge requirement.
You can find more information on assessment appeals and student rights via the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) or review the full Code of Conduct standards online.
